Survey on the marketing of unhealthy foods reaching children and young people

The marketing of unhealthy foods that reaches children and young people has been discussed internationally for several years. In many countries, efforts have been made to influence the marketing of unhealthy foods through national guidelines, voluntary agreements, and legislation. The topic has also attracted attention in Finland, where various measures have been examined and implemented to protect children and young people from the potential harmful effects of marketing. In this context, it is important to consider the perspectives and operating conditions of all stakeholders involved.

The aim of this survey is to assess the awareness, reception, and implementation of guidelines concerning the marketing of unhealthy foods among food sector companies operating in Finland. In this survey, a food sector company refers to any company whose activities involve food marketing that reaches children and young people. This includes food manufacturers, retailers, restaurants, as well as other companies whose service offerings include food products.

By responding to the survey, you have the opportunity to share your company's and industry's perspectives, challenges, and best practices.

We ask for one response per company or per company unit that independently makes marketing-related decisions (for example, an independent brand or retailer operating within a larger corporate group). In this context, marketing refers to all activities intended to promote the sale of food products. Multiple representatives from the same company may collaborate in completing the survey, including representatives from marketing, communications, sustainability, and/or management.

Instructions for responding: Please answer the questions from the perspective of the company you represent rather than based on your personal opinions. If you do not know the answer, select “Don’t know.” If the question is not relevant to your operations, select “Not applicable to our company.” Open-ended questions may be answered briefly and, if you wish, using concrete examples.
